A concert for all audiences and all musical preferences. This is how the Orquestra Filharmònica of the Universitat de València proposes its traditional Christmas Concert, which takes places every in December. Under the baton of Beatriz Fernández Aucejo, the Orquestra performed, along with the choirs of the La Nau schools, L'Eliana and Camp de Morvedre, and the actor Eduard Costa. They performed on the 15th December in the Auditorium of Torrent and performed again on the 19th and 20th in Gandia and Burjassot, respectively.

The Christmas Concert is divided in two parts. The first part, with a traditional approach, aims “to enjoy pure and historicist music,” says Beatriz Fernández. This includes four pieces starring 19th century Russian composers. These ballets are well known to the general public, such as Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky, with waltzes and polonaises. But also other authors, such as Glazunov and Glinka, who have been significant on the Russian music history.

The second part, on the other hand, turns the musical spectacle upside down, breaking what has until now been understood as a Christmas concert. This is an innovative proposal that aims to show the whole artistic ensemble that can be on a stage, with music as the common thread, based on the work Lusmore, a tale for orchestra, narrator and choir of children composed by Ximo Arias Botías in 1985.

“I think it has turned out very well and that everyone likes it because this staging goes beyond the traditional format of the Christmas concert. We have Eduard Costa, who tells the story and helps us communicate the story through acting such as movements, costumes and decoration, which gives it a different meaning. Although it is based on folklore and traditional literature, it is an interdisciplinary part that mixes the lyrics of the story with the voices of the narrator and the young choirs thus completing the orchestral interpretation. This creates a multidisciplinary musical environment that, after all, is essential in our educational projects”, says the director of the Orquestra of the Universitat.

This year's concert has the collaboration of the actor Eduard Costa as narrator and the choral schools La Nau of the Universitat de València and Pizzicato del Camp de Morvedre, directed by Mònica Perales i Massana, and L'Eliana, directed by Christian García, Pilar Silvestre, Inés Felici, Anna Torrent and Marina Torrent.
