For another year, the Universitat de València (UV) is present at the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) in Mexico. This fair opened its doors the past 30th November and ended on 7th December, along with the other university publishers that make up UNE, Unión de Editoriales Universitarias Españolas (Union of Spanish University Publishers).

In this year’s edition, in addition to reinforcing the presence of its publications, the UV has chosen for the promotion through social media of its publications. This way, the volume of direct sales increased in what is the largest book fair in Spanish.

The FIL was founded 33 years ago by the University of Guadalajara as a cultural festival in which literature is the backbone. Its program involves authors from all continents and in different languages, as well as it offers a space for academic discussion on current issues.

FIL activities are carried out throughout the city of Guadalajara and its University, in the fields of music, art, film and theatre.  In its 2019 edition the guest country is India and the activities also include the gastronomic dimension of this region. It can be assured that this festival transcends literature to become an event of international influence.

The University of Guadalajara and the Universitat de València

The Principal of the Universitat de València, Maria Vicentra Mestre, visited the FIL and the stand occupied by UNE, regarding the invitation of the president of this international Book Fair. This company, owned by the University of Guadalajara, is an institution that has a collaboration agreement with the Universitat de València, which was recently renewed and which includes academic and technical cooperation.

Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, Principal of the University of Guadalajara (UdG), held a meeting with the Principal of the UV at the FIL. On this meeting, both discussed new avenues of institutional collaboration for expanding the current research areas, the ongoing mobility program and the collaboration between the Audiovisual Workshop (TAU) of the Universitat and the Sistema Universitario de Radio, Televisión y Cinematografía of the UdG.

In this sense, and in parallel to the FIL, the UdG develops in the same enclosure of the International Book Fair encounter TVMorfosis. TVMorfosis is the annual forum of debate on television and audiovisual contents that counts with its Valencian edition, TVMorfosisCONTD, which is developed annually in the TAU of the Universitat de València. TAU’s director has participated in this year’s Mexican edition and has accompanied the UV’s Principal in her visit to the FIL and with her meeting with the Principal of the UdG.

The UdG, founded in 1792 and re-founded in 1925, is structured in 6 thematic university centres and 9 regional university centres and has 16,715 professors and 280,297 students.

Publicacions de la Universitat de València

The Universitat's publishing house, PUV (Publicacions de la Universitat de València) publishes around 150 new titles every year, which means that it currently has a catalogue of more than 3,000 titles and a total of 1,500 electronic books, since the start of the commitment to digitalisation and commercialisation of this medium, which is consistent with the Universitat's sustainability strategy.

Founded almost one hundred years ago, the Universitat de València publishing house is considered to be one of the most important in Spain. Its staff of 18 people carries out editorial work with authors from the Universitat de València and also publishing authors from large university publishing groups such as Cambridge and Oxford.

PUV's activity has been recognised with the award of quality seals to four of its collections (history, history and memory of Francoism, global village and territorial development) and the UNE prize for the best edition for the book IACOBI, primi instrumenta in archivo sedis valentinae asservata.
