As part of the institutional acts on the occasion of International Women's Day, as every year on 8th March, a five-minute silence has been called at the doors of the Office of the Principal, which this year will take place at 11 am.

Cultural programme to the gender perspective
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Universitat de València also responds to its commitment to the gender perspective through the University Culture Service programming, which will take place at the La Nau Cultural Centre and on the different campuses of the Universitat through various university cultural classrooms and programmes.

A large part of the programme will take place at the La Nau Cultural Centre. It will begin next Monday 7th March, at 12 p.m., with 'Cooks and journalists with a woman's name', an activity organised by the Gastronomy classroom in the Cloister, with the participation of prominent cooks and journalists, including María José Martínez, chef at the Lienzo restaurant; Begoña Rodrigo, chef at La Salita; Alejandra Herrador, from La Atalaya, and the gastronomic journalists Almudena Ortuño, Marina Vega and Paula Pons. The event, presented by the business strategy and gastronomic communication consultant, Maje Martínez Cortina, will address, among other issues, the present and future of women in the restaurant sector: challenges, professional recognition and transformations.

The next activity, which is part of the Women Creators Cycle of the Lluís Vives European School of Thought, will be the conference 'The construction of female identity in Iberian culture', by the Emeritus full university Professor of Archaeology at the Universitat de València, Carmen Aranegui. The event will take place on Wednesday 23rd March at 6 pm.

The Literature Society also hosts an activity of the Women Creators Cycle, on Thursday 24th March, a very special meeting between two writers. The colloquium 'Writing female guilt: stereotypes and deconstructions' will be led by Purificación Mascarell, author of the book 'Cartilla de redención', and Laura Martínez, author of 'Desde la trinchera'. The debate will take place in the Aula Magna (La Nau Cultural Centre), at 7 pm, and will be presented and moderated by Cristina García Pascual, head of the Literature Department at the Universitat de València.

Finally, regarding conferences and debates, the women’s voice in poetry world will close the programme with a gender perspective at La Nau. The author Marina Bianchi will visit the Aula Magna on Wednesday, 30th March, at 5 pm, with the lecture 'Spanish poetry in Italian Hispanism'. The event will be presented and moderated by the head of the University's Poetry Club, Xelo Candel.

The theatre programme in March began with a show especially aimed at university students, 'Spoiler Alert', performed by Lola Boreal on the 2nd and 3rd, directed by Aurora Diago. On the 9th and 10th, it will be the turn of 'Marina', by Teresa Balló and Alejandra Garrido, about social violence against women. Victoria Salvador directs 'The Unexpected', by Fabrice Melquiot, by Inesperadas Teatro on the 23rd and 24th. And the month's programme will close with one of Shakespeare's most famous comedies, 'As You Like It', on the 30th and 31st, starring Rosalinda, a woman banished from the court who disguises herself as a man to survive on the outside, performed by Teada and directed by Amanda Harris.

And in the musical section, the Music Club continues its collaboration with the Equality Unit of the Universitat de València in the organisation of a soprano and piano concert on 9th March, in the Chapel of La Nau, as part of the cultural activities programmed to celebrate International Women's Day. This concert will offer a programme made up solely of female composers.

As part of the “Cultura als campus” programme, the March programme also has the gender perspective as a common denominator. Between 8th March and 8th April, the Faculty of Physiotherapy of the Universitat will host the exhibition 'Women with a lot of history', which distinguishes 18 women who have been made invisible by the androcentric cultural tradition, a fact that has deprived society of the knowledge they have contributed.

The programme of the recently reopened Sala Palmireno of the Faculty of Geography and History also hosts two shows, both at 7 pm On 22nd March, “Hablando De Mujeres” (Talking About Women), a multilingual concert-talk show, will be presented with a set of dialogues and songs about objectification, idolatry, activism and women’s struggle, with musicians Miquel Gil, José Luis Albacete and Antonio J. Iglesias. In addition, on the 29th, the theatre company Komos will perform 'Lysistrata', a classical comedy in which Athenian women are empowered after enduring prolonged absences from home by men.

El #MeToo en la Ciencia Española” with the presence of its author, science journalist Ángela Bernardo Álvarez.
