The University boosts the use of car-sharing at the Burjassot-Paterna campus

The campus is one of the priority points of the initiative “València comparte coche” (València shares car), in which the Universitat de València has been incorporated. The campus is one of the six main areas of the app within the metropolitan environment, with the objective of boosting a more sustainable and fluent mobility. This tool enables saving, reduces traffic jams, and emissions. It also facilitates a more efficient journey to the campus and from the campus.

“València comparte coche” is a project promoted by the Generalitat in which the University has joined so that students and staff from the academic institution can share a vehicle simply and safely. The Burjassot Campus, one of the main places of academic and scientific activity of the metropolitan area, has been selected as one of the first zones where the app is already fully functional.

Benefits

The participation in this initiative has several benefits both to users and citizenship. First of all, it enables an economic saving, since, thanks to the Bono Energético (Energy Bonus) from TRIBBU –and with the support of the Ministry for Ecological Transition–, drivers can recover money in every shared journey. Secondly, more shared vehicles would reduce traffic jams in rush hour, which decreases traffic congestion. Finally, problems related with parking are reduced, since sharing a car optimises the space.

The app verifies the identity of users, matches drivers with passengers with similar routes and calculates the positive environmental impact of every shared journey. Moreover, it incorporates an economical incentive through the state system of Certificados de Ahorro Energético (Energy Savings Certificate), which allows drivers to receive 0,04 euros per kilometre and passenger, which can result in an average of 100 and 200 euros per month. This way, it is important that drivers and passengers have the Bono Energético activated on the app, since the Ministry of Ecological Transition (MITECO) grants this mobility in which the passenger doesn’t pay anything while the driver is compensated with the cost of the journey, according to the conditions of the bonus.

In addition, the app verifies the identity of each user and allows them to see reviews of other users.

How does the app work?

The app is very intuitive. You must access to the Universitat de València app and, from the menu, you need to enter to the Transporte section. Among the available options, you must choose “Compartir” (Share), which has the symbol of a car. After this, you need to download the app.

Once the app is downloaded, you must select your role and preferences, register with your phone number or introducing the SMS verification code.

Subsequently, the personal profile data can be completed and you can add your ID in order to activate the Bono Energético. At the homepage, you must access to the menu and select “Mi Universidad” (My university) to find the Universitat de València. To finish, you must introduce your institutional e-mail and verify your account.

Impact on users

One of the main attractive things of Tribbu for its users is, above all, the economical saving. To access benefits, you must ensure that the certificate of energy saving is activated on the app, in order to get discounts on every journey.

To validate each journey, both the driver and the passenger must scan a QR code generated by the driver. When the journey is finished, the passenger must close it before the driver.

To improve its efficiency, it is recommended that the user posts the usual or one-time journeys, indicating the days, routes and schedule. Tribbu also allows users to choose with who they want to share the car, by checking profiles and using the integrated chat. Moreover, journey can be easily saved with QR codes to facilitate future journeys and to increase savings.
