The principal of the Universitat de València, Esteban Morcillo; the delegate of the Council for the European Union and External Relations, Joan Calabuig; and the president of ENCATC, Annick Schramme, have opened on Thursday 6 October the 24th Annual Conference of the European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centres (ENCATC), which is taking place this year in the Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València.

Even though the Cultural Centre La Nau had already host some ceremonies included in the schedule of ENCATC on Wednesday 5, they were addressed to the members of the European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centres (ENCATC). Today, some activities have been programmed for all the ones registered in the congress, in which they will debate how risk societies affect management and cultural policies. In fact, the 24th Annual Congress of ENCATC, which is held in La Nau of the Universitat de València, will host in the same space more than 160 experts in management and cultural policies who come from 40 countries from all around the world.

After the opening ceremony, the vice-principal for Culture and Equity from the Universitat de València, Antonio Ariño, has given a speech on ‘Cultural management and cultural policies in risk societies’. In this presentation he has highlighted that the Universitat de València has opted for confronting the risk in order to avoid it. In this sense, he has set in motion some initiatives related to culture, such as the creation of spaces for critical and public debate, the development of laboratories for sociocultural innovation and new spaces to give opportunities to the artists, as well as the redefinition of institutions and the fight against the new and persistent cultural inequity.

With regards to the programme, during this morning there will be some presentations on entrepreneurship and digital teaching by participants from all over the world. In the afternoon, some research groups will be created about topics such as creative cities or the relationship between cultural policies and diplomacy. In the evening, the participants attending the congress will visit a part of the Valencian tangible cultural heritage. Tomorrow, they will have an exhibition of the intangible cultural heritage with the staging of the Tornejants and the Muixeranga from Algemesí in the cloisters of La Nau.
