The University of Valencia, through the Office of the Vice-Principal for Equality, Diversity and Sustainability and the Equality Unit, launched a survey to all students this Monday to learn how they manage their time and assess the need to introduce actions that improve their university life, especially in view of the current pandemic.

The survey focuses on discovering what students need to balance study with work, family, leisure time and participation in university life. It has been designed by professors of the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, Alícia Villar and Sandra Obiol.

This initiative was launched in compliance with the Equality Plan of the institution, especially with Objective 1.1 “Promoting work-life balance and co-responsibility” for all groups involved. It expands on the studies about PAS (administrative and service staff) and PDI (teaching and research staff) already carried out by professors Villar and Obiol, which revealed an increase in the demand of work-life balance measures, especially among women.

The results of the “Work-life balance and co-responsibility in the university community of the University of Valencia” survey, carried out in October of 2019 by all University staff, showed that 9 out of 10 PAS and 8 out of 10 PDI (94% for women) demand more work-life balance measures.

Diagnostic reports are available at Conciliación y Corresponsabilidad.

The University of Valencia, in compliance with the III Equality Plan, is working on implementing a comprehensive model of work-life balance and co-responsibility. In this regard, diagnostic studies and reviews and updates of the regulation are needed to design and approve the model.  It is one of the most significant challenges of current equality policies between men and women.
