This ranking collects data from 2,500 universities (approximately 10% worldwide), in order to classify them for their academic performance (quality and quantity of academic publications) according to six indicators. The classification is headed by the universities of Harvard, Toronto and Oxford. At European level, the first ones are those of Oxford, College London and Cambridge.

The parameters measured by the URAP are the articles (21%), an epigraph that measures scientific productivity through articles, reviews and notes; citations (21%), where the impact of the research is analysed according to the number of citations received from the articles published on Web of Science for the period 2013-2017. Also the total documentation (10%), that is, the number of academic documents, which includes papers, reviews, letters, discussions, scripts or articles of magazines published during the same term.

The University Ranking by Academic Performance also quantifies the total impact of the articles (18% of the total score), where the revised scientific productivity (normalised by citations per publication (CPP) of the institution is measured against the world average; the total impact of citations (15%) or the impact of the revised research and international collaboration (15%), which includes the international collaboration data.
