The University Web Ranking (Webometrics) is an initiative of the CSIC Cybermetrics Lab research group that analyses 11,998 entities. According to the last update, today Thursday, the University of Valencia is the fourth higher education centre in Spain and the first one in the Valencian Community. Internationally, it has advanced 17 positions and is ranked as the 215th university in the world. In Europe it advances to 70th place, from 78 last year.

The University Web Ranking (Webometrics) is published since 2004 twice a year, in January and at the end of July. The most important indicators in this classification are impact / visibility (50% of the total score), which measures the number of external networks with backlinks or links from other websites to the pages of each institution, and excellence (35%), which quantifies the number of academic articles from each centre published in high impact international journals located among the 10% most cited.

Thus, by indicators, and if we compare the data with the year 2019, in the presence (which measures the number of pages of the main web domain of the institution), the University of Valencia ranks 114 in the world, going up from position 386. In openness / transparency (number of citations of researchers, according to Google Scholar Citations), the UV stands at number 236, so that it rises 20 positions. In excellence, the first Valencian higher education academic centre rises to number 227 and thereby improves two positions; while in impact / visibility it also advances, specifically 7 places, to 308 worldwide.

At the Spanish level, and according to the update of July of this year, the first positions of the Webometrics are those of January, and they are occupied by the universities of Barcelona, Complutense de Madrid and Autonomous of Barcelona. Globally, the ranking is led by Harvard and Stanford universities and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; while in Europe this ranking is led by the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, and the University College of London.
