The University of Valencia (UV) has improved its results in the CyD ranking, a state classification of universities that uses 38 indicators to measure the academic activity of each institution. In 18 of these, one more than in 2019, the performance of the Valencian centre is valued as high and in 14, as intermediate. Furthermore, in the classification by areas of knowledge, in Economics, the UV is the fifth in Spain with the most high performance indicators.

The CyD ranking is promoted by the Fundación Conocimiento y Desarrollo, and 76 universities (48 public and 28 private) participate in it, representing 94% of the institutions that teach undergraduate education in Spain. In it, 25 areas of knowledge are analysed. This classification compares the results at the institutional level (vision in each centre and also from different profiles) and by fields of knowledge (with undergraduate and master degrees added in a specific field due to their affinity or homogeneity). It presents the results grouping them into the indicators of high, intermediate and reduced performance.

Thus, in the five main areas analysed (contribution to regional development, teaching and learning, research, international orientation and knowledge transfer), research is the one in which the University of Valencia presents the most high performance indicators and where it has advanced compared to 2019 going from 5 to 6. It has improved in “External research funds (liquidated)” and “Normalised impact of publications”.

In this seventh edition of the CyD ranking, the University of Valencia is the only Valencian one that is among the group of the fifteen universities in Spain with the highest number of indicators in the highest performing group. The classification is headed by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Barcelona, the University of Navarre, the Pompeu Fabra University and the Autonomous University of Madrid.

On the other hand, in the analysis by areas of knowledge, which groups 8, the Universitat de València stands out in Economics, where it occupies the fifth position in the state as a whole, accumulating 20 indications of high performance, 14 intermediate and 5 low performance. In Earth Sciences the results are 17, 18 and 8, respectively; and in ADE, Economics and Law, 16 (high performance), 25 (intermediate) and 3 (reduced).

The CyD Ranking offers in its “Results” section three modalities of classifications by indicators (in the set of universities of each autonomous community, by universities and in each field of knowledge). The bibliometric data provider is Web of Science-Clarivate Analytics and the data also comes from universities, which provide it through a web platform; the Integrated University Information System (SIIU) and the Patstat patent database of the EPO-Worldwide Patent Statistical Database.
