The European project DISH (Digital & Innovation Skills Helix in Health), funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission and aimed at improving the digital skills of healthcare personnel, has adapted the contents of its training course aimed at these professionals. A consortium formed by the University of Valencia (through the Polibienestar Institute), the Polytechnic University of Valencia (ITACA-SABIEN) and the La Fe Health Research Institute participates in the proposal.

At this time of the project and, specifically in the Spanish context, the content of the course is being evaluated by the Valencian School of Health Studies (EVES), with the aim of providing an official certification to the participants (mainly primary care professionals).

Gertrudis Fornés, researcher at Polibienestar (Institute for Social Welfare Policies of the University of València), highlights that an analysis of the needs of health professionals in relation to their digital skills has been carried out in each of the countries of the consortium partners in order to adjust to the real needs of the sector.

For his part, Vicente Traver, a researcher at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, states: “This year so complex and turbulent for society in general, but for the health sector in particular, has once again shown us the need to bet on the training of our professionals in digital tools”.

Soledad Giménez and Andrea Gil (nurse at the La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital and researcher at the La Fe Health Research Institute, respectively) who collaborate together in the clinical section of the course, have confirmed the need to adapt the course, given the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The content of the training course focuses on the online training platform available to healthcare personnel, the possibility of open and secure access to digital healthcare information and the optimisation of a scorecard for Type II Diabetes Mellitus. With this content, training adapted to the needs and times of healthcare professionals is offered and, on the other hand, increase their digital and innovation skills. Also, citizens can benefit from e-health solutions already available on the market.

During the first phase of the project, the consortium has defined and described the three main concepts on which this project is based: on-the-job training, creation of innovation units in learning and evaluation as a process.

The DISH project, which began in 2018, lasts three years and is endowed with 996,790 euros. Its general objective is to develop the Europe 2020 Strategy and the main objectives of the European Partnership for Innovation on Active and Healthy Aging. In total, 19 health service providers, academic institutions, as well as public and non-profit entities from eight European countries participate in DISH.
