The tribute activities have been a musical performance by Isabel Piqueres, a Laura’s fellow student, and a mural painted on the Montolivet complex of the Universitat de València, where the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teaching, which Laura made, is taught.

Amparo Alonso, Laura’s professor and coordinator of the speciality in drawing, has expressed their “sorrow before the death of Laura Luelmo” and that she empathises “with her as an art professor, runner and woman.” Thus, she has claimed for a “more fair society, where women are listened to not only in Spain but in all countries where women are threatened by inequality and violence.” Alonso has also pointed out that “all students have highlighted that Laura was a very kind, helpful and trusting person.”  

The rector of the University, Mª Vicenta Mestre, has thanked the activities’ organisers and highlighted that “only from education, we will be able to eradicate any kind of violence, particularly the one upon women. Only from respect, we will live in a more democratic and equal society, since inequality drives to violence.”

Isabel Piqueres, Laura’s former fellow student, has stated that “we all women are angered and enraged because we live in an unfair society, a society that does not respect women”. “We all remember Laura for her liveliness, constant smile and courage” has reminded Piqueres.

The mural painted on the playground of the former Education Science School has served “for students to express their feelings, since art is liked to pain and works as a fighting strategy”, has said Amparo Alonso. The mural, with the name of Laura Luelmo, “will remind her and her academic background in the University.” In 2014-2015, Laura Luelmo studied the University’s Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teaching in the speciality of drawing.

The activities are part of those events carried out yesterday in the Universitat de València. There was a minute of silence in the three campuses and in the Governing Council.
