The UV renews the the agreement with Fundación Trinidad Alfonso to promote university sports

The seven Valencian universities and the Fundación Trinidad Alfonso have renewed at the Universidad Miguel Hernández of Elche (UMH) the collaboration agreement to promote university sports through the Uniesport initiative.

Thanks to this agreement, the eight entities will collaborate in order to launch projects related to sport, to the development of university sport in all its fields, to raise awareness about the significance of finding a balance between sports and studies and to help make the value of hard work visible, as well as other projects promoted by the Fundación.

This agreement has been endorsed by the Principal of the Universitat de València (UV), Mª Vicenta Mestre Escrivà, the Principal of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Francisco Mora Mas, the Principal of the Universitat d’Alacant (UA), Manuel Palomar Sanz, the Principal of the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Eva Alcón Soler, the Principal of the UMH, Jesús Pastor Ciurana, the Principal of the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera (CEU-UCH), Rosa Visiedo Claverol, the Principal of the Universidad Católica de València Sant Vicent Màrtir, José Manuel Pagán Agulló and the director of the Fundación Trinidad Alfonso, Elena Tejedor Neira.

Other public figures have attended the ceremony, like the mayor of Elche, Carlos González Serna, the secretary-president of the Comissió Autonòmica d’Esport Universitari, Javier Sánchez Millán, the secretary of the Sports Council, María José Rienda Conca and the general director of sports of the Generalitat, Josep Miquel Moya Torres.

This agreement will carry out different courses of action. On the one hand, the ‘Premis Fundació Trinidad Alfonso per a esportistes universitaris’ (Fundació Trinidad Alfonso Awards for University Athletes) will be convened. These awards are specifically for athletes who have an excellent academic record. In each of the seven participating universities, there will be a call for a men’s award and a call for a women’s award for athletes who juggle their sports careers with university. Altogether, 14 students will be awarded with 600 euros each and a commemorative plaque. Thus, at the same time, two Extraordinary Awards (Best Athlete Student, for men and women), annually, for the best academic records who have finished their studies in one of the seven universities. The award will consist of 1,200 euros and a commemorative plaque. The Fundación will be in charge of paying for these awards.

Among the different actions these entities will develop, there’s the ‘Dia de l’Esport’ (Sports Day), which will take place on April 5th, 2019. Last year, 90,000 children and young people took part in this celebration. The seven universities will join this year’s celebration with different sports initiatives. In addition, a Voluntary Service Plan will be developed by the Fundación-CADU for the events in which the Fundación takes part in at the Valencian Community. In particular, the volunteers will encourage the participation of the university community.

In this third edition of Uniesport, collaboration will be extended so that, for the first time, the celebration of the 25 Spanish University Championships 2019-CADU CV can be held, which will be distributed between the seven Valencian universities.

The Fundació Trinidad Alfonso ows the name to Juan Roig’s mother, its president and sponsor. The purpose of this entity is to channel the sponsorship vocation of Juan Roig towards the following objectives: having events, infrastructures, the value of sports, athletes and the Valencian Community as a model of sports undertaking.
