The series “Universo Sostenible” was presented in the headquarters of the Spanish Universities’ Rectors Conference (CRUE) in Madrid. It is an audio-visual format developed by 28 Spanish universities, with the University of Valencia’s Audio-visual Workshop as the executive producer.

The opening act was attended by CRUE Spanish Universities president Roberto Fernández; president of CRUE Audio-visual Workshop and TAU responsible, Miquel Francés; general university secretary of the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, José Manuel Pingarrón; and executive producer of La2 “L’aventura del saber”, Javier González.

In the words of Miquel Francés, “’Universo sostenible’ tries to tighten the relationship between society and the scientific community in order to have a positive effect on the public. This will improve their knowledge and their competence, as well as that of the researchers, which will check first-hand the reaction of the audience to their proposals”.

For his part, CRUE president Roberto Fernández has defended a growing presence of science in the media so as to “give people a rigorous knowledge of reality so that they will be more critic and responsible”.

Besides, the secretary José Manuel Pingarrón has emphasised that people have the need to know where we are going and what is being done. “Scientific topics are relevant enough in their lives for them to have the right to have truthful information with university precision”, has maintained Pingarrón.

Scientific series “Universo sostenible”, which is broadcasted every Wednesday within the programme “La aventura del saber” in La2, is a project created from a requirement of CRUE Spanish Universities in a joined petition of work groups on Audio-visual, Multimedia and Scientific Outreach of 28 CRUE universities.

This audio-visual format is made of two seasons of 12 episodes each and it has been worked on by the audio-visual services of the following universities: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, University of Barcelona, Universidad de Castilla la Mancha, Universidad Católica de Murcia, Universidad de Córdoba, European University, Universidad de Extremadura, University of Granada, University of the Balearic Islands, International University of Andalusia, International University Menéndez Pelayo, University of La Laguna, University of Malaga, Miguel Hernández University of Elche, National Distance Education University (UNED), Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Polytechnic University of Madrid, Polytechnic University of Valencia, University of Salamanca, University of Santiago de Compostela, University of Seville, University of Valencia, University of Valladolid, University of Vic, University of Vigo and University of Zaragoza. The TAU from the University of Valencia has developed a design in the audio-visual format and has carried out its executive production along with the collaboration of the Scientific Culture Unite (UCC).

The episodes are divided into different audio-visual blocs arranged in a dynamic and visually attractive way to make it easier for the audience to approach and understand. In addition, each programme can be broadcasted separately through social media and it can be interacted with through the red button in any smartv.

Each episode revolves around a topic in which six experts of different Spanish universities take part to give a direct and clear answer to all the laid out questions. The images served as a support to illustrate the issues treated, as well as to make the speech more appealing.
