The UV will introduce the double degree Chemistry – Chemical Engineering

The Governing Council, gathered this Monday 13th December, has approved the proposal of the double degree programme Chemistry – Chemical Engineering. The UV will be the third Spanish university to teach this degree.

The Universitat de València has recently celebratedthe 125th anniversary of the introduction of the studies in Chemistry (you can check this information on the UVnews website following this link:https://links.uv.es/kaq1aOO). Within the framework of this tradition of chemistry teaching, there was until 1993 a specialisation in Industrial Chemistry in the degree in Chemical Sciences. Later in 1993, the studies in Chemical Engineering began at the Universitat de València.

Currently, at theUniversitat de València, the degree in Chemistry is taught at the Faculty of Chemistry, and the degree in Chemical Engineering at the School of Engineering.

A double degree programme that responds tothe needs of the Valencian industry

Based on these two well-established degrees, the Governing Council of the Universitat de Valènciahas approved the proposal of the double degree programme Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

This new double degree willprovide students with a solid theoretical and experimental training in these two scientific disciplines.

Thus, the needs of the Valencian industry are addressed: Chemists with solid knowledge of Engineering and Engineers with solid knowledge of Chemistry.

This programme is supported by theAsociación Química y Medioambiental del Sector Químico de la Comunidad Valenciana (QUIMACOVA), representing the companies of the chemical sector in the Valencian Community.

A length of 5 years and 330 credits

The double degree programme unanimously approved by the Governing Council has been promoted by the Faculty of Chemistry and theSchool of Engineering. It has been unanimously approved both bythe respective Centre Boards and by the Academic Degree Committees of the two degrees.

The curriculum has a total of 330 credits that will be done in 5 years, and there are20 places available.

An innovative degree in Spain, with seals of qualityand mobility programmes

This double degree is just taught in two Spanish universities: inMurcia andat the former Instituto Químico de Sarriáof the Ramon Llull University.

In this way, the Universitat de València keeps incorporating degrees of a distinct innovative character that responds to the demands of people and productionsystems, evolving from the traditional studies which have high levels of quality and employability.

Both degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of the Universitat de València have been recognised with international quality standards with theEuroBachelor®andEur-Ace® seals.

The Universitat de València is the leading university inEuropein international mobility, both in sending and receiving Erasmus students. International and national mobility programmes will be available for those students who join this new double degree.
