The session València Camina was held at the Cultural Centre La Nau on Wednesday 21 of February. It was organized by the NGO Arquitectúria. The objective of this initiative is double. On the one hand, it aims to present the new pedestrian platform València Camina to the public and invite everyone to walk. On the other hand, it aims to disseminate the methodology of the European programme Flow. It is a project financed by the European Union Horizon 2020. It intends to promote walking and cycling from a multidisciplinary approach and create a level playing field with motorised transport.

All municipal groups, as well as city council and metropolitan technicians have been invited to the open and free session.  Road, Canal and Port Engineering professional associations and architects have also been invited to the event. Collectives linked to the Sustainable Mobility Council will attend as well. It is also opened for the general public. Several issues such as active mobility and local experience in Valencia have been addressed.

València Camina Sessions count with the collaboration of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality. The sessions started at the City Council Square with a walk around the city. The itinerary started at 8:55 a.m. in front of the main building of city council. Then, they passed by the Estación del Norte until they arrived to the University building.  The Mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó, received the participants when they arrived to La Nau.

The sessions started at 9:35 a.m. in the Main Hall of the Cultural Centre La Nau. On behalf of the European programme Flow, Pasquale Cancellara offered a general view of the European project and also the scenarios in New York and Dublin. Then, Martin Wedderburn spoke about Walking in the city from a multimodal approach.

After the break, the second part of the session started at 11:30 a.m. A question has been asked: How do you walk in Valencia? The Councillorship of Sustainable Mobility and Urban Development of the City Hall of Valencia, local entities and groups of citizens such as Colecamins, València en Bici, ONCE DT Comunidad Valenciana and Plataforma València per l’Aire, among others; have been asked to answer such question. They all had a chance to show their view and experience of walking in a city from different perspectives.

To conclude, Martin Wedderburn led the Practical Workshop “Flow”. As an urban planning specialist of Flow project, and an independent consultant in London with a recognized experience and professional commitment with professional and multimodal mobility, he offered the possibility to adapt certain cases to Valencia. The workshop particularly targeted municipal administrative managers, technical staff and people working in urban mobility.
