Valencian public universities triple the amount of their own scholarships for undergraduate students

Valencian public universities tripled their investor effort in scholarships for the training of their undergraduate students in the 2014/2015 academic year (last data available). In particular, the economic scholarships granted by these universities, in other words, those that don’t come from the Ministry of Education, Valencian Department and European Union, reached the 19,1 million euros opposite the 6,2 million of the budget of the previous academic year.

In this way, scholarships of the Valencian public universities represented the 15% of the total scholarships granted to undergraduate students, whereas in the previous year they were only the 5,6%.

This figures are available in the SIUVP platform (Valencian Public University System of Information) that has published in its webpage the last updated data. 

In this academic year, the Universitat de València, the University of Alacant, the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the Universitat Politècnica de València joins 129,140 enrolled students. The 80% of these students are undergraduate, 12% are studying a master’s degree and the 8% are PhD students.

The academic program of these five Valencian public universities has been extended in this 2016/2017 academic year with the implementation of 38 new master’s degree. In total, the student body can choose between 367 different master’s degree, an 11% more than the previous year. Contrary to this increase, the number of degrees offered are still 198.

It is also emphasised in the initial computer graphics of the SIUVP web the growth of the scientific works made by universities. The doctoral thesis double reaching 2,467 works. Furthermore, in 2015, there were 7,154 scientific articles, a 6,5% more than the previous year.

Together with the initial photo with the most recent data, SIUVP has updated part of the 60 indicators that offers, with the data related to the 2014/2015 academic year.  In particular, this review includes, apart from the information about the announced scholarships, new figures in these sections: Internationalisation, Research and Transference, Human Resources and Economic Data.

SIUVP allows the query of the data of a specific academic year, as well as the extraction of the temporal evolution of the same indicator in recent years. It is also possible to consult from the election of a specific university or system in general; and in some indicators, the detail for each field, discipline or degree.

The information collected in the SIUVP data base, which is the result of a collective work by the Valencian public universities and the Valencia Institute of Economic Research (Ivie), comprises from the most academic aspects such as the teaching staff’s supply and demand, to the mots specific financial data about resources and results of the agenda of each university.

This platform joins the five Valencian public universities:  Universitat de València, University of Alacant, Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, Miguel Hernández University of Elche and Universitat Politècnica de València.
