The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València will offer on Tuesday 11 of December at 7:30 p.m. the traditional Christmas concerts at the Palau de la Música de València.

This year the Orchestra will offer a programme divided in two parts. On the one hand, there is a formal part formed by classical pieces, which is typical for these dates. It will include Johann Strauss II’s waltzes and polka dances. The second part is organised by the Choral School of La Nau and several children choral associations. It is aimed at children so that they can be able to recognise animals depending on the music.

Among Johann Strauss II’s (1825-1899) waltzes and polka dances, the members of the Orchestra will play the Die Fledermaus (The Revenge of the Bat), Persischer Marsch, op.  289 (Persian March); the waltz Frühlingsstimmen, op. 410 (Spring's Voices); the polka Tritsch-Tratsch, op. 214 and the waltz Kaiser-Walzer, op. 437 (Emperor Waltz). They will be conducted by Beatriz Fernández.

The second part of the concert will be more diverting and spirited. It will include Andrés Valero’s Concierto para Animales and Josep Ramón Gil-Tàrrega’s Tríptic de Nadal. In this part, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València and the Choral School of La Nau will be in charge of the show. Four children choral associations will also participate: Barcarola Chorus of Schola Cantorum in Aldaia, the Choral School of l’Eliana, the Pizzicato Chorus of the Camp de Morvedre Music School and the Gallarda Chorus of the Choral School Veus Juntes de Quart de Poblet.

The bestiary narrated in the Concierto para Animales, voiced by Eduard Costa, will merge the choral voices of children with bassoons, flutes, violas, violins, cymbals and tambourines, among other instruments, which will bring to life these animals. The text is an adaptation to a popular Colombian poem, ordered by the Symphonic Orchestra of Galicia.

The author of the Tríptic de Nadal, Josep Ramón Gil-Tàrrega, has a strong link with the Universitat because he is a founding member of the group Capella de Ministers and he was the director of the University Choir of Valencia.

You can buy the tickets of the concert at http://www.entradas.com and in the ticket offices of the Palau de la Música de València.

Additionally, other university music groups will play several concerts in another cities and university facilities in Christmas.
