The Valencian Archive of Design (AVD), promoted by the Universitat de València through its General Foundation and the EASD (the Design School of Valencia), with the support of the Valencian public administrations and universities, companies and entities, and of the professional sector of the Valencian Design, has set up this Thursday, 5th November, the Watchdog Committee of the AVD in a meeting held in the Aula Magna of the Cultural Centre La Nau.

The Watchdog Committee, in charge of monitoring and assessing the running of the AVD, is the last of the Archive's bodies to be set up. It joins the Management body, which is formed by the professor Ester Alba from the Universitat de València and the professor Xavier Giner from the EASD València; and the Technical Advisory Committee, whose members are the co-directors of the Archive, the designers Vicent Martínez and Manuel Lecuona, and the dean of the Faculty of Geography and History of the Universitat de València, professor Josep Montesinos.

The Watchdog Committee of the AVD, in addition to the co-directors Ester Alba and Xavier Giner, is made up of donors, sponsors (public and private ones), public institutions and personalities of renown in the field of design and culture. This Committee will gather at least once a year with the aim of getting information about the running and development of the AVD, collecting initiatives and proposals, and establishing new collaborations.

The constituent sitting of the Committee has been held this Thursday and has been chaired by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport of the Universitat de València, Antonio Ariño. Ester Alba and Xavier Giner have participated in it by explaining the actions carried out since the Archive's creation to the members. Among this actions, it should be mention the digitalisation of 15000 publications that will be accessible to the entire society through the AVD website. "This site will be public in a few weeks' time and will be useful to highlight the importance of the Valencian design and give it back to society", said co-directors.

Thus, the creation and the launch of the Archive leave the "consolidation of stable headquarters" pending, which will be "the challenge" for 2021. Currently, the Faculty of Geography and History of the Universitat de València is the venue for the Archive, but, according to the people in charge of it, the constant reception of pieces of work will soon require more storage space. That is way getting new headquarters and a "stable" line of financing are the priorities for next year.

The meeting held this Thursday counted on the presence of the Principal of the Universitat de València, Mavi Mestre, who participated in it via online; the general managers of Culture and Heritage, and of Universities, Carmen Amoraga and Pilar Ezpeleta, respectively; the regional director of the Prime Minister's office of the Valencian government, Francisco Molina; the city councillor of Cultural Action of the Valencia City Council, Maite Ibáñez; the director of World Design Capital Valencia 2022, the designer Xavi Calvo; and of numerous academic and cultural personalities, as well as from business world and Valencian design.
