The Universitat de València, through the Physical Education and Sports Service (SEF), joins the celebrations of the World Day for Physical Activity the next Thursday 6 April. An initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) to commemorate the benefits of sport. World dances, tai chi, aikido, yoga and a round table shape the activity programme which will start at 9:30 at the Blasco Ibáñez Pavilion.

The organization of the World Day for Physical Activity is coordinated through an agreement between the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation and the seven Valencian universities, under the brand UniEsport. ‘We want to emphasise the importance of practising sport for the well-being. That is the reason why from the Universitat de València, we support the WHO initiative through the offer of open and inclusive activities, for everybody, members of the University Community and citizens in general’ explains the Director of the SEF, José Campos.

The programme of activities, entitled ‘Ponte en movimiento’, will start with soft physical exercise in the Blasco Ibáñez Pavilion: yoga (9:30), aikido (11:00) and tai chi (12:00). Then, at 18:30, there will be a round table of experts moderated by José Campos in the Salón de Grados of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. It will debate about sport as an inclusion tool and as promoter of healthy lifestyles. It will include the participation of José María Nácher, tenured university professor of Applied Economics of the Universitat de València, that will talk about grassroots sport and social inclusion in cities based on the case of the Handball Club of Mislata; Álex Salvador, Marketing Director of Cárnicas Serrano, who will talk about integration based on the race; Alejandro Martínez, responsible of the programme ‘Healthy Week’ of the FCAFE, will give the conference entitled ‘Actividad física, salud y justicia social’ (Physical Activity, Health and Social Justice); and Héctor Cabrera, Paralympic athlete who participated in Río 2016, will develop the conference ‘El deporte de competición como una vía de perfeccionamiento personal’ (The competitive sport as a way of personal improvement).
