XII Congress of Pharmacy Students of the Universitat de València

During the 10th and 11th of March the Faculty of Pharmacy hosts one of the most important events for students of the Degree of Pharmacy: the Congress of Pharmacy Students of the Universitat de València. An event in which attendees will participate in lectures, workshops, merchandising and scientific work exhibition, among others.

Every year it brings together more than 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students from different degrees and different universities in Spain. That is why, in addition to being an educational experience, the Congress is an opportunity to establish ties and enjoy unique experiences with mates who share our interest in science.

The Congress is organised by the student’s association AVESFA (Asociación de Estudiantes de Farmacia), a student association made up of students or recent graduates who wish to improve the environment and society's perception of the profession. 

The opening ceremony was attended by the principal of the Universitat de València, M. Vicenta Mestre; the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Hortensia Rico; the vice-president of MICOF, Juventino Jiménez; the vice-dean of Quality and Communication, Javier Pereda; the presidents of the Congress, M. José Herrero and Víctor Mangas; and the director of the congress, María López.

The attendees were able to enjoy the lectures of the full-time trainee lecturer of the Department of Pharmacology of the UV, M. José Herrero, on Pharmacogenetics; of the full-time lecturer of the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology and Parasitology of the UV, Víctor Mangas, on the application of Pharmacometry in Pharmacogenetics. Afterwards, the attendees were able to visit the companies' stands and take part in the poster exhibition. After lunch, Yolanda Picó gave a presentation on how pharmaceuticals pollute the environment, and the day ended with different workshops.

The second day began with flash talks and a round table on pharmacy and molecular biology with the participation of Ana Comes, Clinical Analysis Specialist at the Hospital Arnau de Vilanova; Begoña Porta, Coordinator of the Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacogenetics Group at the Hospital Dr. Peset; Luis Sendra, postdoctoral researcher at the Pharmacogenetics and Gene Therapy Unit of the IIS La Fe; Otón Bellver, Head Pharmacist; and Rocío Lledó, Principal Investigator at the IIS La Fe. Peset Hospital; Luis Sendra, postdoctoral researcher at the Pharmacogenetics and Gene Therapy Unit at IIS La Fe; Otón Bellver, Head Pharmacist; and Rocío Lledó, Principal Investigator at Union Chimique Belge.

Ángel María Carracedo, full university professor of Legal Medicine and director of SERGAS, was in charge of the conference on the translation of Personalised Medicine to clinical practice and drug development. Loreto Crespo, CEO of Genotypia and Sofía Álvarez, Project Coordinator of Genotypia, addressed Genotypia and precision medicine. Lastly, the conference Dissemination as the medicine of the future took place with the participation of Daniel Pellicer, researcher at INCLIVA; Carlos Romá, full-time lecturer of the Department of Physiology at the UV; Rodrigo Álvarez, CEO of Microbacterium; Adela Moreno and Yolanda Morante, Biochemistry and Biology students respectively; and Zulema Rodríguez, researcher at the National Epidemiology Centre of the Carlos III Health Institute in Madrid and Lluís Miquel Lis, researcher at FISABIO.
