Biographical outline:

Professor Vidal Beneyto is a reference for Spanish Sociology and particularly Valencian. It is the first Valencian who was introduced to the discipline in the Franco era, when it was a field unknown to an entire generation. He was the first professor of Sociology of knowledge and culture in the whole State and is, in the sixties, among the components of the Critical School of Social Sciences of Madrid, one of the cradles of Modern Sociology in Spain. During his stay in Paris, in the seventies, he contributed to the formation and human growth of many Spanish students and professors of Sociology, welcoming them into his French home.

His pioneering work was already recognized in democratic Spain with the appointment as a professor, on an extraordinary basis, by the Ministry of Education and Culture (1982-83). All this work has been reflected, mainly, in the positions developed in UNESCO (1977), the Consell de Coordinació de l'Associació de I'Area Mediterrània i Llatinoamericana (1980-94), the Council of Europe (1979-85). ), the Comissió Cultura i Comunicació of the International Europe Movement (1983-87), the European Foundation of Culture (1989-98) or the Patronat of the Culture for Peace Foundation (2001), among many others.

The work of Professor Vidal Beneyto deserved, also, honorific recognitions such as the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur in France (1987), the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit in Portugal (1996), the Culture Prize of the Valencian Community (2000) and the Mediterranean Prize of the Community of Universities of the Mediterranean - CUM (2003), among others.
