Configuring MS Windows for
ViSta Applets

Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT

  1. Choose the "Start" menu's Settings/Folders&Icons" menu item.
  2. Click on the "File Types" tab.
  3. Click on the "New Type" button. This displays the "Add New Type" dialog box.
    • Enter the following information in the first three fields:
      • Description of type: ViSta Applet File
      • Associated Extension: vaf
      • Content Type (MIME): application/x-vista-applet
    • Click on "New" below the "Actions" entry box. This displays the "New Actions" dialog box.
      • On the first line, type "Load".
      • Click "Browse" and use the dialog box to locate the ViSta executable.
      • Click "OK"
    • Click on "Load" in the actions entry box.
    • Click on the "Set Default" button.
    • Click on the "Choose Icon" button at the top of the dialog. This will display a dialog box. If this dialog box has more than three icons, click the "Browse" button and find the ViSta executable. Now you should see three icons. Choose the icon you like the best. Click OK.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close the Folder Options dialog box.
You have now configured Microsoft Windows to recognize ViSta applets.

Use the ViSta Applet

If you have enough memory to run your browser and ViSta at the same time (about 16 MBytes), you should now be able to click on any ViSta applet button and have the applet download and automatically run ViSta. Try this ViSta Applet test. It should run ViSta and display a message saying it worked correctly. If the file is displayed within the browser, and ViSta isn't run, try configuring again.
