College of High Silk Art in Velluters neighbourhood

In the framework of the Year of Silk 2016, Alumni UV will visit Velluters neighbourhood and the College of High Silk Art on 2 July. The registration for this activity will be open from 20 to 30 June.

In the visit organised by Alumni UV the group will walk through El Pilar and Santa Llúcia and will have the opportunity to admire the brick paving of the 18th century, with the allegory of Fame surrounded by the four parts of the world.

The immigration of Genovese artisans brought new silk making techniques to Valencia. Along the Valencian fields the cultivation of the mulberry tree addressed to feed the silkworms extended, and in the 18th century it became the great industry of the city, with 3 800 looms only in Velluters neighbourhood. In 1686, the old Velluters Guild became the current College of High Silk Art.

The visit, organised by the travel club Fil-per-Randa, will be guided by Joan V. Candel and Enric Català. The registered people will meet at 9:45 at the doors of the College of High Silk Art. The price of the visit is 15 euros and includes entry and snack.
