Chris King worked for a long period in the oil industry as a
biostratigraphic consultant, specialising in Mesozoic and Tertiary of the North
Sea, working both from the office and offshore. He has also been involved in
industry-related fieldwork projects in the UK and Venezuela. He is currently
consulting mainly on engineering geology in the London area. Through his career
he has also been involved in research projects on Cretaceous and Paleogene
stratigraphy, partly in collaboration with the British Geological Survey,
Geological Survey of Belgium and Aarhus University, Denmark. These currently
occupy most of his time. He has carried out extensive fieldwork in western
Europe, USA, north Africa, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. His special
interest is in all aspects of Early Eocene stratigraphy, but his published work
has ranged from the Jurassic of Egypt to the Quaternary of the North Sea.
Current collaborative projects include a synthesis of the Eocene of the London
Basin, and the stratigraphy of the Theban necropolis (Luxor, Egypt) and Wadi
Hitan (‘whale valley’, Fayum, Egypt). |
