GLASS-CERAMIC MATERIALS. STUDY OF THE MICROSTRUCTURE-PROPERTIES BINOMY

The effects of the composition and processing variables are studied in the formation of adecuated microstructures wich allow to optimise the physical properties of glass-ceramic materials. We are basically involved with optical and mechanical properties.
At this time we are working on the following items:

  • Cordierite-, diopside-, or mullite-based glass-ceramics in the quaternary system SiO2-Al2O3-MgO-CaO.
  • Cordierite and spinel glass-ceramics in which the crystalline phase contains different transition metal cations.
  • Preparation of glass-ceramics using sol-gel techniques.
