It is well known in work & organizational psychology that job stress harms individuals' health and well-being. Traditionally, one tries to address these negative consequences by job design initiatives or be stress management interventions. This course approaches job stress from a slightly different perspective and focuses on job stress recovery. This seminar gives an overview over research on recuperation and unwinding from job stress and over practical implications following from this research. Topics to be covered include:
- The recovery concept
- Indicators of successful recovery (physiological indicators, affect, performance)
- Theoretical models on recovery
- Empirical research
Students will learn about how to interpret findings from recovery research, how to design their own recovery studies and how to plan a recovery intervention.
