SOCIAL EN MOVIMIENTO Un
ABSTRACT The present study
analyses the collective actions of greatest social impact accomplished
by two important Spanish social movements. A quantitative
descriptive-exploratory method has been used to systematize the
collective actions of greatest social impact in different phases of
mobilization and to explore the relationship that the different variables
linked to the frames of collective action maintain. The sample includes the
participation of 88 of the most active organizations in these movements
and, by means of a quantitative instrument, we have
analyzed 352 of the most important actions developed in a period of two years
of intense activity. The results obtained show eight defined multiform fields
of very particular protests and reveal the frames of collective action (injustice,
identity, efficacy) associated with the generation
of collective actions. Key words: social

Nº 34, 2007, 39-55 THE CONFLUENCE OF RESEARCH TRADITIONS ON TERRORISM
AND RELIGION. A SOCIAL
ABSTRACT The events in
September 2001 and in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other parts of the Middle East
have highlighted the overlap between religion and terrorism. Traditionally,
however, the scholarly study of these areas have
been separated. How can the study of religion,
especially new religions and extremist religions, help inform the study of
terrorism? This paper attempts to overview some of the
overlap between these fields and identify some fruitful research
prospects. Both fields have progressed from a focus on individuals to a
complex model incorporating personal, group, and societal influences. Both
fields have moved from a purely psychological or sociological orientation to
a social psychological perspective and examines the
interactions between multiple levels of causation. Recent work by Jerrold
Post on terrorist motivations and organizations, by Catherine Wessinger on types of millenialist
beliefs and the potential for violence among new religions, as well as
research by other scholars highlights the move towards an interactionist
and contextual theory of violence. Key words: terrorism, religion, pychological
studies, multiple levels of causation |

OSGOOD (1916-1991) APORTACIONES
DE UN PSICÓLOGO EN LA ERA NUCLEAR R.
Alzate Sáez de Heredia, A. González y M. Sánchez de
Miguel Universidad
ABSTRACT Charles Egerton Osgood (1916-1991) is known primarily in the
History of Psychology for his work in psycholinguistics, and in particular
for his technique on semantic differences. This article focuses on an aspect
of equal but less known importance in his academic work: his contributions to
the psychology of peace and conflict. During a period of great tension and
the threat of a nuclear confrontation between the two great powers of the
time, Osgood developed ideas for understanding the situation and deescalating
the tensions between the parties. Key
words: Osgood, conflict, deterrence, escalation,

ABSTRACT In this study we analyze the relationship between
Right-Wing Authoritarianism (RWA) and Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) in a
large sample of the Italian population (N = 3006). The principal results
obtained are: First, in the total sample, the relationship between RWA and
SDO is moderately positive and statistically significant. Second, this
relationship tends to diminish as a function of age. Third, in a group of
respondents from the political right, who are ethnocentric and strongly
religious, the correlation becomes negative. Finally, we analyze the
implications as well as the limitations of the investigation. Key words: Right-Wing

Política, Nº 34, 2007, 99-110 REPRESENTACIONES
Y MATERIALIZACIONES DE CONDUCTAS OBEDIENTES EN EL AMBIENTE SINDICAL ARGENTINO Luisa Mayoral, Bernard Gangloff, Mª Carmen Romero Universidades deTandil, Rouen y Paraïba, y Tandil RESUMEN La aprobación
ABSTRACT The social
valuation of a behavior and the devaluation of the opposite behavior constitute characteristics typical of
social norms. Recent studies conducted in Buenos Aires found
that managers valued the loyal behavior of their subordinates. That is, it seems
that a social norm of alignment is at work and the union members are aware of
it. We wish to know: 1) if the labor unionists are aware of this norm in
a global manner or if they differentiate among its various forms,
and 2) if they spontaneously follow this norm in its various forms or
act in a selective manner. To answer to these questions, we used the paradigm
of the overnormative versus counternormative self-report. We
presented to 90 union members in Buenos Aires a list of behaviors and asked
them to indicate those that spontaneously they were tempted to adopt, those
that they would adopt to present a good image of themselves, and the ones
they would adopt to present a bad image. The obtained results reveal a very weak and generalized normative
perception, and a tendency to behave in a spontaneous and very selective
manner. Key words: allegiance, recruitment, labor
