Hábitat Generacional Programme: an alternative to renting
If you are a student looking for a home near the University, you can stay at an elderly person's home thanks to the Intergenerational Programme promoted by the University of Valencia and the Technical University of Valencia.
For students looking for an apartment in the centre of town, this programme offers the opportunity to stay for free in the home of elderly people who have problems of loneliness and need company. The project is a response of solidarity to the need for company of the elderly and the need for a home of young university students.
To whom it is addressed
- To university students under 35 years willing to share some time with their hosts.
- To people over 60 years, preferably living alone, self-sufficient and who want to share their home with a young person.
Both parts acquire a written commitment which, besides mutual respect, establishes their rights and duties.
Monitoring
Since the beginning of the selection process and until the end of the academic year, a team of professionals, consisting of psychologists and social workers, will provide support for both the elderly person and the student for an optimal life together. There will be periodical follow-up visits and personal meetings with both participants.
