Three professors from the EDCP group receive one of the CIS Research Grants
The Sociological Research Center (CIS) has awarded one of its research grants to three researchers affiliated with the Research Group on Defence Economics, Cybersecurity and Protection of the University of Valencia, within the framework of its competitive call for proposals corresponding to 2023, in recognition of the quality and relevance of the scientific proposal submitted: One Year of War in Ukraine: Spaniards’ Assessment of the Conflict and Its Implications for Security and the Economy.
On 16 June 2023, the Presidency of the Sociological Research Center made public the final resolution on the allocation of grants for research projects in areas of interest to the institution. The call, governed by national regulations and characterized by a high level of competition, received a total of 31 applications, of which only three collective projects (Category B) were ultimately selected following the academic and technical evaluation process.
Among the funded projects is the initiative involving Professors Virgilio Pérez, Cristina Aybar, and José Manuel Pavía, researchers from the Research Group on Defence Economics, Cybersecurity and Protection of the University of Valencia. These grants, endowed with €10,000 per project, aim to support the development of advanced studies in key areas for contemporary social, political, and economic analysis.
The selected projects address issues of particular relevance to security and democratic stability, such as the analysis of political attitudes in contexts of economic, health, and military crises, as well as social perceptions of armed conflicts and their impact on security and the economy. These lines of research are directly aligned with the group’s strategic priorities, particularly with regard to defence economics, risk management, and the understanding of social factors that influence national and international security.
The awarding of this grant represents institutional recognition of the research trajectory of the group and its members, and strengthens their positioning in the field of security, defence, and protection studies from an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspective. It also helps to consolidate collaboration with leading public institutions such as the CIS and contributes to the generation of knowledge that is useful for the formulation of evidence-based public policies.
From both an academic and social perspective, these projects add value to the analysis of recent transformations in Spanish public opinion in scenarios of uncertainty and conflict, offering results with potential impact on both academic debate and institutional decision-making.
