HISTORICAL CENTRE OF VALENCIA

The historical centre of Valencia is integrated by seven neighborhoods or zones with own historical entity. The neighborhood of La Seu (Cathedral) where is held the Congress, constitutes the most ancient and monumental part of the city, where are located the Cathedral, the tower of the El Miguelete (popularly known as El Micalet, in valencian language -catalan-), the square of the Mare de Déu (Virgin) and the palaces of the Generalitat, Bailia, Marquis of the Scale and the Valencian Courts. Alike, don’t lose the opportunity to visit Cavallers street where you could found numerous mediaeval palaces or wander by his narrow and picturesque streets inheritance of the Islamic period.

 

But the historical centre of Valencia does not finish here, since it is formed of other six neighborhoods: the neighborhood of Velluters, where the towers of Quart and the MUVIM (Valencian Museum of the Illustration and of the Modernity) stands out; the neighborhood of El Carme, ancient Muslim suburb where is located the IVAM (Valencian Institute of Modern Art) and the Cultural Centre of the Beneficència (Museums of Prehistory and Ethnology); the neighborhood of El Mercat, whose core is the Central Market and the Church of the Saints Johns and where are place the Llotja (Ancient Silk Exchange considered by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site) and the Round Square (Plaça Redona); the neighborhood of  La Xerea where you can find the palace of the El Temple; the neighborhood of Sant Francesc, situated around the square of the City council in which it stands out, in addition to the quoted square, the City council and the Palace of Posts and Telegraphs. Alike the commercial zone of the street Colon; and finally the ancient Jewry situated around the street of El Mar, where you do not have to lose the opportunity to visit the street of La Pau with his buildings “Art Noveau" style, and visit the headquarters of the Universitat de València, the palace of the Marques de Dos Aguas and the churches of Sant Joan de la Creu and El Patriarca

CIUTAT DE LES ARTS I LES CIÈNCIES DE VALÈNCIA (CITY OF THE ARTS AND THE SCIENCES OF VALENCIA)

Spectacular architectural group designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava that has turned into one of the main icons of the city. It is formed by the Museum of the Sciences Prince Felipe, the Oceanographic (aquarium and dolphinarium), the Palace of the Arts Queen Sofia (Theatre of Opera), the Hemispherical (room of IMAX of projection and planetary) and the Umbracle (zone of walk with Mediterranean garden).

OTHER PLACES OF INTEREST

Valencia offers a lot of other places of interest, like the beaches of the Malvarrosa and Les Arenes, the port and the Maritime Neighborhoods; green zones like the Botanic Garden, the gardens of the Real, Vivers and Montfort; and out of the city, it deserves a special attention the Natural Park of the Albufera, one of the main wetlands of Europe.
