Profile Born in Elgueta (1950). Undergraduate studies at the universities of Zaragoza, Madrid-Complutense, and Edinburgh. Graduated (Licenciado) from the University of Zaragoza (1975). Ph.D. in Physics from the Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT) (1982). Thesis supervisor: Prof. I.I. Shapiro. Postdoctoral researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie (1982-1985), permanent research staff member at Siemens AG, Munich (1985-1986) and at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (CSIC) (1986-1991). Full Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Valencia since 1991 and Research Professor at the CSIC on extended leave of absence. Elected Full member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales (Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences) in February 2003 (joined in May 2007). Received the Euskadi Research Prize 2004. Full member of Jakiunde, the Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters, since October 2007. |
