Méthodos is a research group interested in philosophy of science broadly understood. That means that the group’s activities are related to general philosophy of science and also to philosophy of particular sciences. Concerning the former, the range of questions encompasses issues related to the metaphysics and epistemology of science, but also to the sociological dimension of science. As to the particular sciences, not only empirical sciences (natural and social ones), but also formal sciences are considered (logic and mathemathics, and particularly statistics).

Méthodos encourages cross-disciplinary research. We believe that philosophy of science is very well-suited to play this role. Besides, methods and findings of other disciplines are in turn considered highly enriching for a grounded philosophical standpoint. Consequently, both graduate students and faculty with philosophical concerns coming from different scientific fields are welcome.

The group meets regularly (usually biweekly) throughout the year to discuss works-in-progress by graduate students and faculty. Each year the group also organizes a number of talks by external visitors.
