COMENIUS singing choir
Comenius was established in 1991 at the Faculty of Education, Comenius University in Bratislava. The choir consists mostly of students of this faculty. Associate professor Sergej Mironov is the artistic manager and choir conductor in one person. The choir performs as a chamber, mixed or female group. Comenius choir gives its own concerts, makes recordings in broadcaster, cooperates with symphony and theatre orchestras. The choir has participated in numerous international competitions winning 33 prizes altogether. It is a laureate of IFAS in Pardubice (1994, 1996, 1998), Chorus Camera in Rychnov nad Kneznou (1995), B. Smetana International Choir Competition in Litomysl (1995), Chrystal Chor in Novy Bor (1995) and B. Martinu International Choir Competition in Hradec Kralove (1999) Czech Republic.
Comenius is well known not only at home the laureate of Academic Banska Bystrica Festival (1993, 1995, 1997)- but also abroad. It participated in International Youthchoir Festival in Veldhoven (The Nederlands, Cacilia 1995), Chortage International Festival in Lindenholzhausen (Germany 1996) and A.C. Seghizi Competition in Gorizia (Italy 1996). In 1998 the choir presented the Slovak choral art at the Semana Coral de Álava International Festival in Spain and on a concert tour in Italy. Comenius is one of the six choirs that have been chosen to participate in the 3. Internationaler Chorwettbewerb 2000 in Miltenberg (Germany).
The dramaturgy of the choir includes compositions from the periods of Renaissance and Romanticism up to contemporary music, with special attention being paid to artistic arrangements of folk songs. The 3rd prize in the category jazz-pop music at International Festival in Lindenholzhausen proves the wide-ranging repertoire spectrum and genre universality of the choir.
