VILNIUS UNIVERSITY WOMEN CHOIR VIRGO
The choir was founded in 1980 at the Department of Philology of Vilnius University.
In 1985 the choir was awarded the diploma of best women choir in Lithuania. In 1985-1990, VIRGO performed in a number of Soviet Republics: Estonia, Latvia, the Ukraine and Russia.
Starting with 1990, VIRGO has performed in more than 15 countries of Western Europe including Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, England, etc. The choir has had three big tours in the USA and Canada.
In recent years VIRGO has been awarded prizes in 8 International Festivals - Cantonigros, Athens, Neuchatel, Middlesbrough - to name just a few.
It is frequent that VIRGO gives joint performances with various orchestras, instrumental ensembles and soloists.
The milestones of the choir in 1999 include a joint concert with Panevežys Chamber Orchestra in Budapest, Matyas Basilica(October 1999) and a performance in Glinka Capella in St. Petersburg(5 July).
