Last March 2023, the Econcult team - made up of Pau Rausell, Raul Albeledo, Fransceco Molinari, Andreu Francés, Jordi Sanjuán, Borja Abril, Amparo Oliver, Chema Segòvia and Pau Díaz- presented in Paris the results of the work they have been carrying out for over a year, which consists of a gender analysis of the cultural and creative sectors, within the framework of the MESOC project.
The Econcult team members in charge of presenting the results were Borja Abril and Sendy Ghirardi.
The "Gender Analysis" consists of a systemic review of scientific articles dealing with gender and the cultural and creative sectors, where exactly 6631 articles have been classified. The database used for the analysis was Web of Science, which collects information from 1900 to the present day.
The classification was made according to the type of cultural sector referred to in the article together with the combination of the different searches for the terms "gender", "female" and "Women".
Empirical analysis has shown that within the cultural and creative sectors we cannot find disaggregated data and that out of the 27 countries that have been investigated from official organisations, Spain is the only one that disaggregates by gender.
Finally, some recommendations were given to solve some of the problems that have been observed during the research, such as, for example, establishing a guideline at European level that urges member states to introduce a gender equality law that includes the adaptation of statistics. In addition, the disaggregation of information by gender in the cultural and creative sectors, among others.
