Civic Engagement and Project Management Practices

Would you like to get an insight into volunteering and managing civic engagement projects? Have you always wanted to get involved and not yet found the right action? You may be interested in FORTHEM civic engagement activities! Our Alliance encourages students to promote and manage volunteering and education projects for development, solidarity and awareness in collaboration with NGOs or other local associations.

In the near future, you will be able to choose among the following options:

  • Volunteering packages launched by the University of Valencia in Spain: Two short-term civic engagement projects will be carried out each year (for four years) in collaboration with local NGOs and students, engaging students from other Alliance universities.
  • Career and Qualification Campus at the University of Burgundy in France: Two collaborative social projects will be developed each year (for two years), with groups of two students from five FORTHEM partners.
  • The Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in Germany will develop one civic engagement project per year (for four years) with local NGOs.
  • Coaching of one online civic engagement project with NGOs or enterprises per year (for four years) will take place through the “Team and Client” course created by the University of Jyväskylä in Finland.
  • A Civic Engagement Summer School for four students from each partner university will be held each year (for four years) at the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu in Romania.

Fostering democratic practices among students
The FORTHEM partner universities are unified in their belief that freedom and democracy are pivotal to helping the alliance foster and facilitate a free exchange and collaboration of ideas in education and research. As such, the FORTHEM alliance will be giving students and staff the opportunity to participate in Democracy Week which is held annually in May in Kristiansand, Norway. Through its participation, the alliance hopes to enhance awareness of democratic practices and issues, among students and staff at the alliances’ nine universities. One of the nine universities – the University of Agder – is also based in Kristiansand.
