Biography

Professor of Spanish Language in the Department of Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia, Doctor in Hispanic Philology since 1996 and Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 1997. I have developed research tasks in the field of the general study of the colloquial register as a founding member of the research group Val.Es.Co. (Valencia, Colloquial Spanish) and I have dedicated a large part of my work to the analysis of the functions of intonation in spoken language, an area in which I have published reference works such as La Entonación coloquial. I have also published numerous scientific articles related to my areas of research in prestigious national and international journals such as Oralia, Verba, Moenia, Journal of Politeness Research, Faits de Langues, Lingüística Española Actual, Español Actual, Boletín de Filología de la Universidad de Chile, Revista de Lingüística Teórica y Aplicada, Revista de Llengua i Dret, Estudios Filológicos, Quaderns de Filologia, Anuari de Filologia, Pragmática sociocultural, etc.

I have directed as IP the research project Fonocortesía (Ministry of Science and Innovation: 2010-2013) and I have participated in numerous research projects consistent with my lines of work: two projects of general analysis of colloquial Spanish, specializing my participation in the study of prosodic resources. The third and fourth projects in which I have participated refer to the study of the particles or markers of discourse; such projects have resulted in the creation of a free electronic dictionary located at http://dpde.es/. In a fifth project I have developed work of control and training of scholarship holders, in relation to the transcription and digitalization of oral corpus. I have also participated in the Legal Language Modernization Project whose final report was presented in September 2011 to the Council of Ministers, as a member of the team coordinated by Dr. Antonio Briz of the University of Valencia: (https://www.administraciondejusticia.gob.es/paj/PA_WebApp_SGNTJ_NPAJ/descarga/Informe%20de%20la%20Comisión%20de%20Modernización%20del%20Lenguaje%20Jurídico.pdf?idFile=9267a586-1b77-478b-b094-c44052cb3156), and I have been a collaborating researcher in the state projects of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness Es.Var.Atenuación, of the University of Valencia and Melodic Analysis of Speech and Didactic Models, of the University of Barcelona. I am currently participating in the projects Discourse Units for a Systematic Description of Speech Markers in Spanish at the University of Valencia and EHSEE-FONOEMOCION (Speech with emotional and expressive meaning: phonopragmatic analysis and applications).

My research capacity has reverted to the creation of the language services company, Tecnolingüística S.L., born as a spin-off, under the auspices of the Universitat de València.
