He completed his PhD thesis at the University of Valencia (2003–2006) under the supervision of J.A. Font. After two postdoctoral contracts at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching (2006–2011) and in the ERC CAMAP group at UV (2011–2017), he obtained a Ramón y Cajal fellowship (2017–2022). He is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the UV.
He is involved in gravitational-wave observation as a member of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) collaboration through the Valencia Virgo Group, of which he has been a member since 2016. He also participates in the development of the Einstein Telescope, the third generation of gravitational-wave detectors. His interests in the field of relativistic astrophysics include the numerical modelling of core-collapse supernovae, magnetized neutron stars and binary neutron star mergers, with special focus on magneto-hydrodynamical turbulence, instabilities and neutron star oscillations.
He has published more than 70 papers (excluding large collaborations), has an h-index of 74 and over 50.000 citations (h-index=31 and 3500 citations, excluding LVK papers), among them 4 PRL, 1 ApJL and 1 Nature (excluding LVK). He has been plenary speaker in international conferences in 18 occasions and has been invited to give seminars more than 20 times. He has been co-PI of two research projects of the Spanish Ministry, has led the Working Group 4 within the COST Action PHAROS, served as Coordinator of Division 7 of the ET Observational Science Board, and is the leader of the research Unit of the University of Valencia in the ET Collaboration.
He has been continuously teaching at UV since 2011, including the Bachelor’s Degree in Physics (and the two associated double degrees), the Master’s Degree in Advanced Physics, and the Bachelor’s Degree in Telematics Engineering. His teaching has included courses such as General Physics III, General Relativity (Master), and Mechanics Laboratory. He has co-supervised 9 PhD theses and is currently supervising another 3, in addition to numerous Master’s and Bachelor’s theses.
Between 2021 and 2024 he served as Department Academic Secretary, and since 2024 he has been the Head of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
