Biography

Dr. Patricia Pérez-Fuster is a researcher and lecturer specializing in autism, digital technology, and inclusive education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s in Methodology and Statistics for Behavioural and Health Sciences, a Master’s in Education with a focus on Educational Psychology, and a PhD in Developmental Psychology.

She has worked as a psychologist and project manager in foundations and associations dedicated to supporting autistic people. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy, University of Valencia.

In 2012, she joined AdaptaLab in ARTEC at the Robotics Institute (IRTIC) to pursue her doctoral thesis. Since then, her research has focused on the design and implementation of digital technology-mediated psychoeducational interventions in natural settings to enhance social and adaptive skills in autistic people with intellectual disability. Among the most notable projects she has contributed to are Pictogram Room, IVRAP, ARBIT, and Empower. These initiatives have resulted in the creation of validated, effective, and user-friendly videogames and augmented, virtual, and mixed reality tools, which are freely available to the public, thereby contributing to open science and knowledge transfer.

She is also a member of the Atypical Research Group at ERI-Lectura, where she contributes to projects such as Atypical, which investigate reading processes in neurodiverse children through eye-tracking technologies, with the ultimate goal of designing meaningful materials to support language and literacy development.

In addition, she is part of several international research networks on autism, initiated during her research stays in the United Kingdom (University of Birmingham) and the United States (Georgia Tech and Yale University), which continue to expand to address emerging challenges in the field.
