Javier Roca is Full Professor in the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology at the University of Valencia. He is also a researcher in the Interdisciplinary Research Structure on Reading (ERI-Lectura) and director of the ATENLEC research group, focused on the study of attention, reading, and cognitive ergonomics.

Holding a PhD from the University of Granada, a Master’s degree in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, he has been teaching since 2012 mainly in the Bachelor’s degrees in Early Childhood and Primary Education and in the Master’s degree in Special Education, with particular attention to diversity and to evidence-based educational practice.

His research has focused on the analysis of cognitive processes (such as attention) and their impact on everyday activities such as reading and driving. He has published work with academic and social impact in scientific journals and has been continuously involved in competitive research projects and research contracts, both public and private, in collaboration with national and international institutions. In recent years, he has led a research line aimed at understanding the difficulties faced by adults with dyslexia in functional contexts, with the goal of optimizing environmental design and reducing inequalities.

He has prior experience in university management as Head of Department, member of the Standing Committee, and member of degree committees and temporary academic staff selection committees. He has also served as Secretary of a scientific society in the field of experimental psychology (SEPEX). This professional trajectory has provided him with a rigorous and realistic understanding of the academic and organizational functioning of the university .
