Biography

JAVIER ROCA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology at the University of Valencia. He is also a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Research Structure on Reading (ERI-Lectura). His academic background includes a PhD from the University of Granada, an Official Master’s Degree in Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience, and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. Since 2012, he has been teaching in the field of attention to diversity, mainly in the Bachelor's Degrees in Early Childhood and Primary Education, as well as in the Master's Degree in Special Education. His research has mainly focused on the study of cognitive processes (e.g., attention) and their application in everyday contexts (such as reading or driving). He has published in high-impact scientific journals in the fields of experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, attention to diversity, and cognitive ergonomics. He has participated in numerous publicly and privately funded research projects and contracts, in collaboration with national and international institutions. In recent years, he has led a research line aimed at analysing the difficulties experienced by adults with dyslexia in everyday tasks (such as reading road signs while driving), with the goal of optimising design and developing technologies to help reduce inequalities.
