Olivier Wieviorka, historian specialist in World War II, visits the UV

The French historian Olivier Wieviorka will participate in a panel discussion on Wednesday, 26 November, at 6:15pm, in the Sala Palmireno of the Faculty of Geography and History of the Universitat de València. This initiative has been organised by the Chair Alfons Cucó Chair of the UV, the Institut Français of València and the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society, through its programme Culture on Campus.

Wieviorka is a professor at the École Normale Supérieure (París), member of theInstitut Universitaire de Franceand has been unanimously acknowledged as one of the greatest Francophone specialists in World War II. His work, including different books and documentaries, has redefined the way in which the range of moral, political and social options in studies about the French Resistance, the Vichy regime and the collective memory of the 20th century are addressed.

This meeting will take place with regard to his most recent academic work ‘Total History of World War II’ (Histoire totale de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale), and that will present the opportunity to discuss in detail his historiographic reflections, his research process and how he understands the role of the historian in the construction of memory.

The panel discussion will be presented by Sergio Valero, head of the Departament of Modern and Contemporary History of the UV and of the The Alfons Cucó Chair of European Politic Reflection, and Aurelio Martí Bataller, professor of Contemporary History at the UV, will also participate. Consecutive interpreting French-Spanish will be provided.  Admission is free, but the number of places is limited.
