The Universitat de València continues to reap success at the Regional University Sports Championship

The UV judo team won 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals at the CADU. In addition, the UV teams finished the last matchday of the CADU league with 12 teams qualified for the finals on 8 March.

On Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 February, the 5th and last league matchday of the Regional University Sports Championships (CADU) was held, which was between the teams of the Universitat de València against those of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

The women’s football team won the match with a crushing 10-1 victory, a goal feast at home that qualifies them directly for the final of the CADU, which will be played on 8 March against the Catholic University of Valencia. The men’s football team were not so lucky and lost the match 1-3, which left them out of the final.

In rugby, the UV teams won all the matches they played. The girls finished their two matches with the score UPV 5-UV 29 and UPV 12-UV 15. And the boys also achieved two wins (UPV 7-UV 17 and UPV 14-UV 19). Both are qualified to play in the finals, where they will play against the UPV and the UA.

In men’s futsal, the UV boys lost 3-6 in the match they played on Tuesday 21 at the UV Sports Pavilion; even so, they have qualified for the final, which gives them a chance to redeem themselves for that bad result, as they will face the UPV again in the final. The women’s futsal team started the 5th matchday of the CADU league knowing that they were already out of the final, but they were playing at home and went out to give their all, winning the match 2-0 against the UPV.

In handball, both UV teams won their matches, which took place at the UPV Pavilion. The men's team finished with a score of 26-29 and the women's team got a 24-33. Both teams qualified for the final on 8 March, in which the girls will play against the UJI and the boys against the UA.

The women’s volleyball team won the match with a score of 0-3, and will face the UPV again in the final. The men's team also won the match 2-3, a victory that added to the previous results, takes them to the final against the UJI.

The paddle tennis team won 3-0 and the tennis team also won with a score of 2-1. Both the paddle and tennis teams have qualified for the final of the CADU on 8 March. 

Finally, the basketball teams played their games on Wednesday 22 at the UV Sports Centre. The UV boys had everything at stake in this game, they needed to win to qualify and they did their homework, the score ended 83-45 for the UV, which will play the final against the UPV. The women's basketball team also won their game 82-31 and will play the final against the UA.

Individual CADUs

The CADU judo competition, organised by the Catholic University of Valencia in the Benimaclet Pavilion, took place on Saturday 18 February. The matchday was a great success for the UV, who won 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals. Laura Torregrosa won gold in the 48kg category. Lucia Mompo also won gold in 52kg. Candela Gómez won bronze in 63kg. Another bronze was won by Laura Antón, in 63kg. Gorka Sánchez won silver in 73kg. Carlos Bueno, in the 73kg category, took the bronze medal. Aitor Goicoechea also won a bronze in 81kg. And Hugo Barcia was gold in 90kg. The individual victories led the UV to the second place in the university rankings, which meant winning a second silver medal in this competition.

The golf CADU, organised by the CEU Cardenal Herrera University, was held on Thursday 23 February. The tournament took place at the Foressos golf club in Picassent. The best result for the UV was obtained by the med student Luis Lerma, who finished in 8th position.

In the coming weeks, the calendar of the Regional University Sports Championships, in the individual sports modality, is non-stop. On Sunday 26, the Marathon CADU, organised by the UJI in Castellón; on March 1, the Goal Ball CADU, organised by the Miguel Hernández University, which will take place in Elche; on Thursday 2, it will be the turn of chess; on Saturday 4, taekwondo; and on Sunday 5, trail running.
