What are the manuals and where are they?
These are recommended books by each professor in their subjects, as basic bibliography (searchable on the catalogue).
They are in the rooms 1, 2 and 3 on the ground floor.

 


Where are the monographs?
They are in the rooms from 5 to 16 on the first and the second floors.
he minor use ones are in the closed deposits you must request them to the staff on each floor by means of a ticket.

 


What are reference works and where they are?
They are encyclopedias, dictionaries, large thematic works, atlases, bibliographies, etc. They are in the room 4 (first floor), closed deposits (the great majority can be taken home) and online at full text. Reference-only books can’t be taken home.

Where are the theses?
You find them at the catalogue of UV ( choose "Theses" from scroll down menu "All catalogue"). You can find them also through Roderic (the most recent read at UV and full text), through TDX (Tesis Doctorals en Xarxa), through Teseo (theses abstracts have been read at Spanish universities from 1976), and through Dissertation&Theses (internacionationals).

 


Can I take books off the shelves?
Yes, access is free for all the documents in the rooms. At the door of each room there is a guidance plan with all that the room contains and how to find it. The books located at the deposits should be requested to the staff on each floor by means of a ticket. More instructions.

 


Where to leave the books at the end?
On the trolleys located in each room or on reading tables. It is better not to return them to the shelves.  

 


Is it possible to transfer books from one floor to another?
Yes, the books can be moved from one floor to another. At the end they can be left on the trolleys of the room where they belong.

How to find a journal?
By catalogue, searching by the title of journal, not of the article. More information at the newspaper library.

¿How to find a journal article?
Search articles in the database, in the national repository of journals of Dialnet or in the journals summaries, or within each of the electronic journals subscribed by the University of Valencia, etc.
Once identified the article, and if there is not electronic format, you can search for the physical location of the journal (not the article) at catalogue of the University.
You can also request the article available only on paper in the UV using this form (only PDI and PAS).


The databases that are not online?
They are installed on a computer in the researchers' room (in room 17, 3rd floor):

  • Bibliography of Spanish Literature since 1980: Bibliographic references of authors, editions, translations and studies of Spanish authors of all ages and Latin American and Philippine authors up to the Independence published since 1980.
  • Bibliotheca Teubneriana Latina 4 (BTL4): More than 900 works of Latin Literature from editions of the Teubneriana Library. Also available online.
  • CETEDOC Library of Christian Latin Texts CLCLT-3: Texts with translations into English, French, German and Italian of different corpus of Christian literature.
  • Eighteenth-Century Fiction: Eighteenth-Century Fiction. Full texts of 18th-century British writers. Also available online.
  • Iter Italicum: Renaissance humanistic manuscripts from worldwide libraries.
  • Latin Bibliography: 15th century to 1999: Latin works from the 15th century to 1999
  • Letteratura Italiana Zanichelli 4.0: Full texts of 700 works by182 Italian authors from San Francisco de Asis to D’ Annunzio. It Includes a biographical dictionary.
  • Oxford English Dictionary: Also available online, www.oed.com
  • Oxford Reference Shelf
  • Patrología Latina: Works of the Church Fathers from Tertullian to Innocent III (early 13th century). Also available online.
  • Shakespeare. Editions and Adaptations: The large editions of Shakespeare's works from the First Folio of 1623 to the Cambridge edition of 1863-66, with adaptations, sequels and other related works.
  • Thesaurus Formarum Totius Latinitatis: A set of Latin forms from its origins to the 20th century. It also includes authors and titles. Thesaurus Linguae Latinae network (it is necessary to install the ICA Citrix Client for using Metaframe).

How to identify and locate a microfiche?
In the catalogue, click on advanced search and enter “microforma”, selecting "any field" in the drop-down list. They are located in the closed deposits (AU-MF…) where you should request a ticket in the circulation desk (ground floor) in order to borrow them. At the 3rd floor in the room 17 there is microform reader and digitalisation machine.

 


How to find films? Can they be borrowed?
To find videos, CDs, DVDs in the catalogue, click on the shortcut to the right, “films”.
For a more comprehensive recovery, choose “any field” and write “enregistrament vídeo” in the tab “advanced search” . (There is the option to select the library from the list box “Location”).

The search can also be modified to restrict results by adding conditions to the field subject and entering, in Valencian, any of the following:

cinema de ficció (fictional)  aventures (adventures) Chilllida, Eduardo (concrete person) 
drama programes de televisió dcoumental (TV documentaries) castellà-ensenyament (Spanish - teaching)
històric (historical) ciència-ficció Espanya-història (Spain - history)

You can also search by director, actor… writing “surname, name” in the author field. By default, the system sorts results by relevance. In order to get an alphabetic list of titles, you should go to modify search and click in “sort by title”.
The films can only be borrowed for 3 days with six renewals and they can be reserved. They are in the room 1 (ground floor) under the signature M/PC.

How to find audio documents?
In the catalogue choose search by “keyword” and write “enregistrament sonor”. You can also modify the search to restrict the results by selecting the field “subject” and writing:

How to find the old, digitalised books of the UV (full text)?
You can search the catalogue (title, author....) and choose the option "Somni" from the drop-down list "Scope"

The full-text journal articles?
In the publishers, services and portals collected in the journals page, in the full-text databases (they are marked with an icon) and here ( available e-journals). For articles only available in print, you can request to collect them in any campus through this form (only for PDI, PAS and postgraduate students).

How to find the bibliographies?
In the catalogue:

  • Individual: select subject and write the person's surname(s) and name  (for example Ortega i Gasset, José), with the exception of saints, monarchs and classic authors, for whom you should write the name first and in Valencian (for example, Alfons X rei de Castella).
  • Collective biographies or documents with biographical information: select subject and enter the term you are interested in (always in Valencian) and the term biografi* (with asterisk). For example: Historiadors biografi* in subjects.
  • To see all the terms in the catalogue's subject index, write only biografi*.
  • Other sources of biographical information are the great encyclopaedias and dictionaries (Espasa, Calp, Britannica, Larousse, Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana, etc), many of them in full text here.

Where is the press?
In the room 17, 3rd floor. El País, El Mundo and Levante are received. Only the issues from this month and the previous month are available.
More coverage of titles and press years in electronic format here. You can search any data in files or newspaper libraries on the webpages of the newspaper. Or in various newspapers simultaneously with specific tools such as Factiva or Newsstand.
