Subject: Sampling and analysis of environmental analysis through mass espectrometry (3 ECTS credits)

Descriptors:

Environmental pollution: priority pollutants in Europe. EPA's list. Legislation and current state. The role of mass spectrometry in the identification and quantification of environmental pollutants. Sampling and sample preparation. Sampling of solid samples (mud, sediments), sampling of liquid samples (natural and waste waters), atmospheric samples and biota. Mass spectrometry applied to the analysis of inorganic pollutants at the level of traces and ultratraces. Off-line sample preparation techniques. Extraction/preconcentration in water samples.
