Description and characteristics

The Master’s Degree in Environmental Pollution, Toxicology and Health (from now on Master’s CTSA) that offers the University of Valencia (UV) has, in part, its origin in the Doctoral Programme in “Environmental Pollution” (extinct) and in the postgraduate degree “Master in Environmental Health” (which replaced it in 2008).

In addition, the Master CTSA appears as a response of the demand of official qualification that during more than 15 years has had the own qualification of the University of Valencia “Master in Environmental Science” with 13 consecutive editions and more than 200 enrolled students. Also the contents of the Interdepartmental Doctoral Programme “Environmental Pollution” are included in this Official qualification that has been taught continuously during 15 years, with a remarkable success of students enrolled. On 2007  a proposal was made for implementing the Master’s CTSA to the Valencian Commission on Accreditation and Quality Assessment that evaluated the proposal favorably (Decree 31/2007, 16 March, DOGV 21 March; Resolution 26 March 2007, DOGV 9 May). On 22 April 2013 was favourable verified by ANECA. Currently the Master’s CTSA has interdepartmental nature as seven departments of the UV participate in its teaching.

Moreover, there are topical issues that require R&D in the field of Environmental Pollution, of Toxicology (ecotoxicology) and Environmental Health:

  • Risk assessment for the environment and for human health (Regulations of the European Union)
  • Programmes for monitoring the health of ecosystems (EU Water Directive)
  • Legislation on protection and soil contamination
  • Legislation on water pollution
  • Sustainability
  • Environmental management
  • Technological Centres and R&D Centres

The Postgraduate programme offered, is a pioneer both in the Valencian Community and in the Spanish State as at the present  there doesn’t exist a Master’s that renders an adequate training in Pollution, Toxicology and Environmental Health to cover the needs of expansion of the sector.
