Ricard Pérez Casado

Ricard PérezHe was born in Valencia on 27 October 1945. He got his PhD in History from Universitat de València in 2000. He is a graduate in Political Sciences from Universidad Complutense of Madrid. He also took courses on Human Sciences at Université de Provence, Aix-en-Provence in 1967, and he is an expert in Defence, accredited by Universidad Juan Carlos I in 2005.

Among his numerous publications the most relevant are El Socialismo Posible and Conflicte i Mediació. He has been a collaborator of several publications, such as Valencia-frutos, El Correo Catalán, Sierra de Oro e Il Comune Democratico, among others. He participates with El País, in the editions of the Valencian Community and national. Also, he has worked in several places of relevance for enterprises of the Valencian Community related to economic, urban and environmental studies.

In politics, he was a founding member of the Valencian Socialist Party. As representative of the PSPV-PSOE he occupied several political posts, including Councillor and Deputy Mayor, Councillor for Urbanism and Mayor of Valencia from 1979 to 1988. He also was Vice-President of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMPL), of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces of the Mediterranean Cities Union, and the Council of European Municipalities and Regions.

Besides, he has been deputy at Cortes Generales representing Valencia in the 7th Congress (2000-2004), in which he was a socialist speaker in the Committee for International Development Cooperation, and chairperson of the Committee on Foreign and Defence Policy. From 2005 to 2007 he was the president of the Executive Committee of the European Institute of the Mediterranean; and Government Commissioner for the celebration of the 32nd America's Cup.

Other posts outside of politics have been Chairperson of the Bancaja Board of Directors (1992), Second Vice-President (1993-1996), Trustee of the Bancaja Foundation (1996-2009), etc.
