The training programme for people aged over 55 of the Universitat de València La Nau Gran has organised five conferences for students that will take place during the course 2018-2019.

At the moment of registration, students have to sign up for one of the five conferences. The attendance to this conference incorporates two free election credits to the record of the student.

The conference will take place in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

Civil society against inequality

José María Vidal

General director of the NGO Oxfam Intermón Spain and member of the committee of Oxfam International direction. Industrial chemist by profession, he has always been linked with the development aid, especially with Latin America. He was cofounder of Ingeniería sin Fronteras in Spain.

José María will talk about how citizens can fight against the socioeconomic inequality.

 

Personal autonomy and advanced age

Antonio Ariño

Full University Professor of Sociology of the Universitat de València and currently vice-principal of Culture and Sport. His major researches are in the field of Sociology of Culture, policies of social welfare and the Third Sector. He has also realised researches about popular festivities, collective identity, associations and cultural heritage.

 In a society with an increasing number of elderly, we are witnessing of a cultural change that is related to the emergency of a new generation of rights, aimed at the empowerment of the self-realization: the personal autonomy.

Longevity is a concept related to the biology and evolution of the cells and living beings organs. We will know which received ideas are true and which not.

 

Destroyed art

The loss of historical heritage supposes always a harsh blow to the identity and city essence. That makes more difficult the interpretation of its future. It will reflect on the impact of the deconstruction of the heritage in loss that are not accidentals or because of natural disasters, but conscious destructions that also have an own political, social and religious message, as the destroyed artwork.
