The 43 Universitat d’Estiu de Gandia ends with almost 400 participants and reasserts its role as a space of debate and transfer of knowledge
The 43 Universitat d’Estiu de Gandia (UEG) concluded after several weeks of academic and cultural activity, with the participation of 398 people with a total of 12 courses, in which more than 80 teachers and specialists participated, besides a wide programme opened to citizens that turned the capital of la Safor into a reflection, dissemination, and scientific and social commitment space, once again.

TheUniversitat de València finishes theUniversitat d’Estiu de Gandia, the 43rd edition that, under the slogan “Fake knowledge. Education and research in the age of Artificial Intelligence”, invites people to reflect upon challenges that artificial intelligence, fake news, and the necessity of strengthening critical thinking from education, research and the dissemination of knowledge create.
From the inauguration, hosted last 3 June with the conference of the journalist Iñaki Gabilondo, to the closing, last 17 July, with the last course of the programme, “Encuentro de jóvenes investigadores e investigadoras en derecho financiero y tributario” (Meeting of young researchers in financial and tax law), the UEG has been consolidated again as one of the main university Summer forums of the territory, gathering university professors, experts from different fields, students, and citizens around current issues of science, society, and culture.
In total, this edition offered 12 courses with an academic programme that addressed so varied topics such as artificial intelligence, communication, law, sustainability, culture, citizens’ participation, education, social sciences or biomedical research, among others.
The Universitat d’Estiu also opened itself to society with a full programme of Open Activities, that filled different spaces of Gandia with conferences, conversations, music and exhibitions. Among the proposals, the most highlighted were the meetings led by figures of recognised prestige such as Aurora Bosch, Clara Grima, Sergi Pitarch, Loreto Ochando, Jesús Maraña and Alfons Cervera, as well as the concert of Big Band Jazz of the Universitat de València, that put the musical touch to this edition.
The cultural programme was completed with the exhibitions “¡Viva el arroz! Gutiérrez visita Gandia” –aimed at getting back the creative universe of the Gutiérrez magazine and the illustrator figure of K-Hito– and “Estampas en transición. Obra gráfica de la Colección Martínez Guerricabeitia”, an exhibition integrated by works of some main referents of contemporary graphic art that supports creative freedom and critical thinking. Both proposals completed the cultural offer of the Universitat d’Estiu by approaching citizens to artistic heritage, graphical memory, and intelligent humor as reflection and knowledge tools.
Besides its cultural and training academic offer, the Universitat d’Estiu de Gandia continues strengthening its vocation as a meeting space between university and society, enabling dialogue among the academic world, institutions, social agents and citizens, and contributing to the transfer of knowledge beyond classrooms.
