The Alaquàs Autumn University will address citizen participation into EU democracy

The Universitat de València and the Jean Monnet Module for Citizens’ integration into EU democracy are organising the 5th edition of the Alaquàs Autumn University, under the title ‘Citizens’ participation into European Union democracy’. The European Union and its citizenship’.

On 10 November, the Castell-Palau d’Alaquàs will host this Seasonal University, which this year celebrates its 5th edition. Aimed at the general public, this event aims to provide an in-depth knowledge of political and democratic rights and their exercise within the European Union.

The opening ceremony, at 9:30 a.m., will be attended by Antonio Saura Martín, Mayor of Alaquàs; Ester Alba Pagán, Vice-Principal for Culture and Society (UV); María Jesús García García, coordinator of the conference (UV); and a representative of the Valencian Provincial Council and Caixa Popular.

Afterwards, María Jesús García, professor in the UV Department of Administrative Law and director of the ‘Jean Monnet Module. Citizens’ participation into European Union democracy’, will give a lecture titled ‘Citizens’ participation into European Union democracy’.

Joan Romero González, full university professor of Human Geography (UV), will address the ‘Consequences of the pandemic and war in Europe’. Professor Romero will share with the audience his reflections on the crucial moment the European Union is undergoing, as the decisions taken at this time could determine whether the political project is consolidated or whether the existential and legitimacy crisis that has been evident for some time now is accentuated.

The Alaquàs Autumn University will end with a debate between the audience and the speakers, and will conclude with a closing ceremony.

This event has been organised by the Universitat de València, through the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture, Territory and Society; and theJean Monnet Module Citizens´ integration into European Union democracy, co-financed by the European Union's Erasmus+ programme; in collaboration with the Alaquàs City Council, the Valencian Provincial CouncilandCaixa Popular.
