Announcement of the 30th “Estudi General” European Award for the Popularisation of Science, with a prize of 12,000 euros

The aim of the award is to encourage the production and dissemination of works that, using accessible language, make scientific and technological advancements understandable to the general public, particularly pre-university students. The winning book will be co-published in Catalan by Edicions Bromera and the University of Valencia within the “Sense Fronteres” collection.

The award is open to essays written in Catalan, Spanish, English or French, with a length between 250,000 and 300,000 characters (including spaces), aimed at popularising scientific and technological knowledge. Additional materials to the text must be original, free of rights or contain the corresponding reproduction license. Individuals who have received this award in previous editions are excluded from this call for entries, as well as bachelor’s degree final projects, master’s degree final projects, doctoral theses and scientific articles.

Works should preferably be submitted electronically via the UV online office (http://webges.uv.es/uvEntreuWeb). Alternatively, they can be submitted in paper form to the Registry Office of the institution (Avda. Blasco Ibáñez 13, 46010, Valencia). The works must be original and unpublished, and will be assessed anonymously by the jury based on the following criteria: scientific interest and coherence (maximum of 3 points), creativity and originality (up to 3 points), clarity and structure (up to 3 points) and correct use of grammar and spelling (up to 1 point).

This year's jury includes Rosa M. Donat, vice-rector for Innovation and Transfer and chair of the jury; Carolina Moreno, professor of journalism at the UV and director of the “Sense Fronteres” collection; Francesc Lloret, winner of the 29th edition of the award; Mònica Bolufer, researcher in the Department of Modern and Contemporary History (UV); and Juli Peretó, researcher in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (UV).

The prize will be awarded on the same day as the rest of the Ciutat d’Alzira awards, on the evening of Friday 8 November 2024, during a literary dinner where the winner will receive the cash prize and the trophy symbolising the Ciutat d’Alzira Literary Awards. The deadline for submission of entries begins the day after its publication in the Official Journal of the Valencian Community (DOCV).
